"I am strongly inspired by women in rock because of their freedom of words, attitudes, image, movement, and social activism." Who are you and what do you do? My name is Larissa Oliveira, I am Brazilian (25), an ESL teacher, writer and punk lover (haha). I am also a zinester and graduated in Pedagogy. Last year I sat and watched Moxie with my two adolescent daughters. It sparked their interest in the riot grrrl movement as they watched Vivian and her friends fight the institutionalised sexism in their school. Not long after, I caught my girls drawing hearts and stars on their hands, they started looking through my zine collection and added numerous riot grrrl tracks to their digital playlists. They began to be more openly critical of the way the boys in their own schools treated or spoke to the girls. They got really annoyed at anything that, in their eyes, was sexist. The Origins of the Riot Grrrl Ethos

Marina Red tracks back through the decades to uncover the origins of the Riot Grrrl ethos and finds herself (unexpectedly) in Frank Zappa’s basement and at the start of a musical revolution with the formation of The G.T.O’s.
