Lockdown is giving me time to create and I recorded this in the home studio under the stairs.... Not a word of a lie!! As my friend Paul said, I'm the Riot Grrrl Harry Potter!!
The spirit of revolution in this song is dedicated to all the beautiful Queen's of Riot Grrrl and the Riot Boyz I know and love!! You all inspire me!! Those who check their privileges and fight for equality!
It's thanks to my two daughters, who let me make tunes and only interrupt occasionally when the biscuits run out and to my step-daughter, Mya, who lends her inspired screaming and giggling to this track. Let's make Catherine Mayer's idea of Equalia a future they can believe in!
The lyrics are dedicated to useless politicians, who have the power to change things but don't and to those who support the established patriarchy! It's my middle finger in the air to them!
It also draws from personal experience of knowing that I am the only person who has the power to save me. I have been to some bad places but each time, I've come back stronger! I know it's not the biggest achievement for some to just release a track, but the fact that I always relied on others for my happiness, my creativity, and my inspiration meant that I never really felt happy or created anything I wanted to hear. I was doing everything to please them. I've broken that umbilical cord of reliance and I'm so happy sat under my stairs with my cheap DAW, cheap Audio Interface, and my guitars... Now I write the songs I want to hear and create the music news that I wanna read. If anyone else thinks it's great, then that adds to the overall experience of creativity, the buzz of 'finding my people'
