Interview with Tim Lee - Singer/Songwriter. 5 Quick Questions

Tim has been on the local music scene for a number of years and works on lots of collaborations with local artists and musicians.  I'm really excited about his forthcoming release in June 'She's Got It'.  The video will feature short video clips of local female musicians and artists... I'm in the vid as well as my life juggling keyboard playing, goddess of the accordian, sister!  Along with many other local grrrls and womxn I admire.

Tim answered my 5 QQ's... Here's what happened

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I am part of the rebel alliance and a traitor!....no wait.  I’m Tim Lee and I’m a Singer-Songwriter.

2. Who or what inspires you?

I have a really eclectic influences, from Paul Simon to the Velvet Underground, Smokey Robinson to the Foo Fighters, and this reflects in my diverse material, which ranges from the dark to the funny, the funky to the soulful. But I try to always find my own honest voice in everything I try to do.

3. What challenges do you face?

Working full time and looking after 2 disabled step kids means finding the time to write and make music really difficult at times.  Also battling the ‘black dog,’ anxieties and lack of belief from day to day can put barriers in your way sometimes (although sometimes it can spur you on too; depends what kind of song you’re writing I guess).  But I try to write my songs in a ‘piecemeal’ way as a result; getting down any lyric or riff ideas as soon as they come and then trying to piece them together when I get time.  It seems to work well for me.

 4. What has been the highlight of your career so far?

I think the highlight is always hearing other people interpret your songs or say that one of your songs meant something to them or helped them in some way.

5.  What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

I’d love to keep making music as long as possible; to learn new instruments and ways of making music and to work with more musicians.  I’d like to get the confidence to play my music in a band again maybe.
